On the journey to New Plymouth, the vehicles were buffeted by strong winds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So there were a few prayers, then peace in our hearts, to know that our Lord will get us there safely. And we did, Thank You Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We arrived at a lovely Freedom Camp next to Lake Rotomanu, next to the City. Then around to the mall and back again. It is named after the English city of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plymouth\">Plymouth<\/a>, in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Devon\">Devon<\/a>, from where the first English settlers to New Plymouth migrated. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Plymouth_District\">New Plymouth District<\/a>, which includes New Plymouth City and several smaller towns, is the 10th largest district (out of 67) in New Zealand, and has a population of 90,100 \u2013 about two-thirds of the total population of the Taranaki region and 1.7% of New Zealand&#8217;s population. This includes New Plymouth City (60,200),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Waitara,_New_Zealand\">Waitara<\/a>&nbsp;(7,720),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Inglewood,_New_Zealand\">Inglewood<\/a>&nbsp;(3,970),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%C5%8Cakura\">\u014cakura<\/a>&nbsp;(1,780),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%C5%8Ckato\">\u014ckato<\/a>&nbsp;(561) and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Urenui\">Urenui<\/a>&nbsp;(429).<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Plymouth#cite_note-NZ_population_data_2018-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The city itself is a service centre for the region&#8217;s principal economic activities, including intensive pastoral activities (mainly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dairy_farming\">dairy farming<\/a>) as well as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Petroleum\">oil<\/a>, natural gas and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Petrochemical\">petrochemical<\/a>&nbsp;exploration and production. It is also the region&#8217;s financial centre as the home of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/TSB_(New_Zealand)\">TSB Bank<\/a>&nbsp;(formerly the Taranaki Savings Bank), the largest of the remaining non-government New Zealand-owned banks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notable features are the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Botanic_garden\">botanic garden<\/a>&nbsp;(i.e.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pukekura_Park\">Pukekura Park<\/a>), the critically acclaimed Len Lye Centre and Art Gallery, the 13&nbsp;km (8.1&nbsp;mi)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Plymouth_Coastal_Walkway\">New Plymouth Coastal Walkway<\/a>&nbsp;alongside the Tasman Sea, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Len_Lye\">Len Lye<\/a>-designed 45-metre-tall (148&nbsp;ft) artwork known as the&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wind_Wand\">Wind Wand<\/a><\/em>, Paritutu Rock, and views of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mount_Taranaki\">Mount Taranaki<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New Plymouth was awarded the most liveable city (for a population between 75,000\u2013150,000) by the International Awards for Liveable Communities in 2021. In 2023, New Plymouth was awarded New Zealand&#8217;s most beautiful small city by Keep New Zealand Beautiful.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Plymouth#cite_note-3\">[3]<\/a><\/sup>&nbsp;It also won multiple awards in 2008. The city was in 2010 chosen as one of two walking &amp; cycling &#8220;Model Communities&#8221; by the government. Based on New Plymouth&#8217;s already positive attitude towards cyclists and pedestrians, the city received $3.71m to invest into infrastructure and community programmes to boost walking and cycling.<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Plymouth#cite_note-4\">[4]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Plymouth\"><strong>Wikipedia<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wow! heading north again, praise God.
